October 3rd, internacional Felt Day
29 de Septiembre de 2009“Felt - intertwined, bound together, forever as one – United”
Not only is 2009 the Internacional year of the Natural Fibers (decalred by the United Nations), but also this 3rd of october it is going to be celebrated the Internacional Felt Day! This yea
r is the fist one, so let’s support it!
The main colors which will represent this day are also the theme: “a slice of the colour wheel - red to yellow”, truly beautiful and warm colors! They bear a resemblance to the different colors that the sun has in different moments of the day. Feltmakers from all around the globe should do and show their work with these colors or teach their techniques! Artist from everywhere will do it!
It is like if felt was the cousin of wool, and it is another expresion of a fantastic raw material. Its softeness and versatility makes it a multifunctional material to work with. From making craft to art it provides the felter with a way to express themselves with a material which can be shaped and worked with a variety of techniques.
For this event many felters have created a group called “Felt United”, which is the organization in charge of the event (for more information http://www.feltunited.com/ To contact them info@feltunited.com) who have invited every felter to join their move! Their goal is to conect from experienced felters to amateur ones. Do not be shy and show your work!

21st of September, welcome fall with hooks and needles!
22 de Septiembre de 2009The oficial day when the weather starts to change has arrived. Autumn recieves us with warm winds and some heat, which then fade out in the cold of winter. We should see this with positivity because is now when we can truly recieve this season with our hooks, needles and a lot of soft and colorful wool.
Let’s take advantage of this and start knitting as an act of love. We can gather together with our friends and beloveds to knit or crochet and then we can gift others our creations. Let’s go back to those times when we chose and thought carefully what the other person needed or liked, let’s think for a while in what we want to transmit with what we do. Remember, what we do with love and kindness will always return better, and even more if it is for our families and friends.
The weather changes with a process, such as the one that we do when we knit: a process that we choose to do for ourselves or others. It is relaxing, and an expresive and creative way to set free our creativity. Both knitting and crochet have scientifically been proved to reduce anger and stress so it surely will help you to find your peace of mind.
As a handcraft it has to be carefully tought so it provides a lot of oppotunities to crate human bonds with the ones who are close to us. It usally is transmitted through generation to genetarion so it enriches family relationships and friendship bonds.
Let’s all have a shot in knitting and recieve this autumn with our arms open and our needles ready!
